A new optical design with two precision XA elements eliminates sagittal flare, a distortion common in large aperture lenses. Such a problem can cause an unnatural diffusion of point light sources, which is accentuated at the edges of the image.

 Innovative optical design in a compact and lightweight lens

A new optical design that reduces the overall diameter of the lens by employing two XA elements (one for the front element, usually larger) and a newly developed DDSSM focusing system combine for a very light total weight of just 445 grams . Due to its reduced size and weight, this lens provides excellent mobility and is ideal for compact E-mount bodies.

The 11-blade circular aperture mechanism enhances the smooth, natural bokeh effect thanks to an advanced design and manufacturing process with precise control of spherical distortion. A minimum focusing distance of 0.24 m and a maximum magnification of 0.17x produce close-ups that create, along with the wide-angle view, spectacular perspectives that also take advantage of deep, vibrant bokeh.

A new high-powered DDSSM system optimized for this lens offers about three times the capacity of the previous focusing system. The improved performance of the DSSM system provides faster, more accurate and quieter autofocus for excellent photo and video performance.
